With the new Cape Online office up and running in Tygervalley, we sat down with team leader Tamlyn Maritz (who is under the leadership of Cape Online Manager Nikita Quinton) and got the low-down on their new work space.
Tell us about your new work space
Having a place that we could call our own has never been the case for us… Until now! Now we have an office that was created for us, our own place we can call home, and it is just that… Home! We have our own dining room table to enjoy a lunch together, a stunning comfortable lounge area to have our meetings at, or even just kick our feet up on a Friday and unwind after a busy week. The most beautiful design with a warm, happy and chilled vibe to it… You wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
What makes your team so special?
I think what makes our team so special is that we are such a diverse team, which is amazing. Everyone is unique and will be able to offer their own experiences and knowledge, that others may not necessarily have. We are a team that is under brilliant leadership, we gel, communicate and work well together. We set goals for ourselves, and as a team and we applaud our achievements and results. Everyone contributes their fair share and no matter what, we always offer each other support regardless if it is on a work or on a personal basis. On top of all of that, we know how to have fun too. The fact that we are able to balance all of this on a daily basis makes us a very special, close-knit team.
What’s it like to work in an online environment?
It is fast paced, on-the-go constantly, with so many opportunities to convert the lookers into bookers. With all the different platforms that a client can use these days, you need to be accurate, quick and precise if you want to convert those enquiries. Your days will fly by and before you know it tomorrow is here. Being in an online environment, although you are constantly busy, it is exciting as well, because every day is different, and allows you so many opportunities to grow.
How flexible is your working day?
Being in an online store, you definitely do get more flexibility compared to working in a walk-in store. We have 2 shifts that we alternate every week. One week you will work a 7am until 3pm shift and then the following week you will work a 10am until 6pm shift. This does allow you to free up some of your time with either shift that you are on for the week.
From the video, it looks like you work hard, play hard – how do you find the balance?
If you put in the work and push yourself to new limits, why not reward yourself by having a little fun? We are all very driven consultants, so it is so easy to get into the workaholic mode because you just want to be successful, but what is amazing about this team is that you are constantly reminded that you need to give yourself a break too and it is okay to switch off from time to time. It is very important and healthy to be able to have this balance. The fact that we have the same motto across the company means it’s definitely something that we live by. We all know how to work hard, it comes naturally, but when it’s time to switch off we know how to rock and roll too.
